See What's for sale

Formed in 1994 through an amalgamation of the townships of Rama and Mara, Ramara Township is situated along the north-eastern shores of Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching.

Part of Simcoe County, Ramara offers such attractions as:

  • Kilometres of shoreline properties
  • Public beaches
  • Rental cottages
  • Summer resorts
  • Family Camping
  • Casino Rama
  • Geneva Park and Fern Resort conference facilities
  • Lagoon City and Bayshore Village retirement/resort communities

Home to just fewer than 10,00 people today, the area has been populated for as many as 5,000 years with archeological items, including wooden fishing spears, showing the area was used for fishing by the first Native settlers. In fact, a national historic site of first nations fishing weirs is located in the Narrows.

The area’s portage routes have brought people through Ramara for some 400 years, which is when Champlain first travelled the area.

Today, Ramara’s municipal office is located in Brechin, a community that had a population of just 250 people a century ago, but was home to three railway stations. It is now the largest of Ramara’s many communities which include Cooper’s Falls, Lagoon City and Washago among many others.

Farming, tourism and aggregate are the primary industries while Casino Rama is, perhaps, the biggest draw, and is located in the neighbouring First Nations reserve of Chippewas of Mnjikaning First Nation in Ramaa.
