A self-taught artist, Watson became well known for his landscape paintings. His former home in the hamlet of Doon became the Doon School of Fine Arts and is now a National Historic Site in Canada.
The Doon Heritage Village located in the former Doon village that is now part of Kitchener, Ontario, beside the Homer Watson Park, is a 60-acre living history village with 22 buildings that shares the history of the Waterloo Region back in 1914.
